Company - About Lighting Analysts

Lighting Analysts, Inc. (LAI) was founded in February of 1984 by Todd Saemisch and David Speer for the purpose of creating microcomputer software to assist with the application of electric lighting products. Throughout our 33+ years in business LAI has been recognized as the author of industry standard calculation tools for architectural lighting applications both interior and exterior. Our products are used worldwide by lighting professionals of all types; from manufacturers (literally all of the major North American lighting companies use our software AGi32), to specifiers (engineers, lighting designers), manufacturers’ representatives and many government agencies (military, state and provincial DOT’s). Our software has been recognized through repeated real-world comparisons as accurate and reliable.

All calculation procedures follow guidelines issued by the Illuminanction Engineering Society or similar International body. Our Radiosity calculation and rendering engine is recognized as the pinnacle of achievement for this calculation technology. Our Chief Scientist actually “wrote the book”.

Current Products

AGi32 – Industry standard point-by-point calculations using radiosity technology for any lighting application. AGi32 is a stand-alone microcomputer program.

ElumTools – Our same radiosity technology running inside of Autodesk® Revit®.

Licaso – (New!) Annual daylight simulations for AGi32 and/or ElumTools that execute in minutes, as compared to hours or days for alternatives!

Photometric Toolbox – Breakdown luminaire photometric files by standard performance metrics.

Flash Indoor and Outdoor – Web-based calculation tools for manufacturers.

Early Products

LAI’s first product was a general purpose point-by-point (a calculational method) program called “POINT” (imagine that!) introduced in April of 1984. POINT was among the first microcomputer based lighting packages marketed to the general industry. Following soon after, LAI introduced “ISOPOINT” in 1985. The Isopoint software automated the task of plotting iso-illuminance templates (iso-fc or iso-lux) such that a user could produce a complete catalog of such templates by spending only a few minutes with the software. Our third effort was an interior lighting specific program called “INSIGHT” released in 1989. All of these programs were rendered obsolete by “AGI” released in May of 1992. AGI was the first commercially available point by point program for the PC to perform interior computations with irregular shaped rooms and sloped ceiling configurations.

Mission Statement

To assist the architectural lighting industry with the preparation and presentation of predicted lighting performance through the use of powerful, yet affordable, calculation software, and to actively support that software with friendly, knowledgeable and accessible assistance.
