Flash Tools - Flash Indoor
Return to previous page

Flash_Indoor is a zonal cavity (lumen method) calulation tool which can be seamlessy integrated into your website. Flash_Indoor allows a potential customer to quickly estimate the light level (illuminance), number of luminaires, and lighting layout,  for a simple room or building.

Flash_Indoor's XML based input and output allows your webmaster flexibility in programming appearance and function. It is easy to customize screen appearance with your artwork and corporate colors. Flexibility in loading photometrics and extended functionality can also be implemented via custom buttons on the form

On April 15, 2009 the former FlashZC software was reintroduced as Flash_Indoor.

How does it work?

When the Flash Tool opens, click on the desired input tab to open that section. Typically for first time visits, go through the input sections top to bottom. Once familiar with the tool operation, you can skip many of the input items and get results in seconds.

The tool will compute instantly when it has enough input.

Each input section is shown below.
Select a photometric file from the pull-down menu. The Flash_Indoor tool is designed to present only the photometric files that are relevant to the browser's location in the manufacturer's website. It can draw from a database or from photometric files on the server.

If photographic images exist, the tool can display them to help your browsing clients understand their selection.
The Geometry section will highlight the graphic model when a mouse over occurs for an input cell to help users differentiate dimensions.
Reflectances are expressed in percent. The Coefficient of Utilization (CU) and effective cavity reflectances are computed and displayed.

Default values can be set in the XML input.
The Specify section is used to set the target Illuminance level for the calculation. Options include the ability to compute based on a set number of luminaires, or for a target power density.

The computation can be further constrained in terms of tolerance for the desired Illuminance level using the radio buttons.
The Advanced Layout section provides constraints on luminaire position by Rows & Columns, Spacing, Wall Spacing, Ceiling Grid or Continuous rows or columns. Select the checkbox to constrain and enter the desired setting for that parameter.
The Advanced Luminaire section allows some simple prorating for the calculations based on Lamp Lumens and Luminaire Wattage.

The symbol appearance can also be modified from this area.
Set the preferred units. The defaults can be set in the XML input. Mix and match is permitted.
Flash_Indoor has a clean single page printed output. Click the Preview button to complete user fields for “Project title”, “Description”, “For” and “By”.

Email functionality requires server side scripting on the hosting website. This is not provided by Lighting Analysts. This capability can be disabled in the XML input if not implemented.
