Installing Updates and Upgrades

The Advanced License Sharing option is available to Single User License owners for an additional annual fee of $500/year. Advanced Sharing technology allows you to leverage your licenses across multiple computers much like Network Licensing, but with our web server acting as the license verification medium. As an example: one single user license with Advanced Sharing could be installed on up to twenty computers with any one computer able to use the software at one time. One of the distinct advantages of Advanced Sharing when compared to network licensing is the AGi32 software can be installed on any computer that has an Internet connection, enabling employees to work from home computers or those that are not able to connect with an office network.

One Advanced Sharing Package allows you to share up to ten individually purchased licenses with up to twenty distinct computers, this is called a Shared License Pool. The License Sharing feature requires a persistent Internet connection and all shared computers must be using the same Major program version.

Watch the video on Advanced Sharing

Installation:

  1. From an active Single User License installation, select Installation and License Manager from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Set up License Sharing
  3. Select Advanced Sharing
  4. Select New
  5. Enter user information (name and email) and click Submit.
  6. Once License Sharing is successfully set up, the program generates a Shared License Key. This initial shared license key is used to create a Shared License Pool. The shared license key can also be used to allow other computers to add their single user licenses to the shared license pool. This initial shared license key will be e-mailed to you, allowing you to forward it to other users/computers as necessary.
  7. Follow steps one through three to add an additional single user license to an existing Shared License Pool.
  8. Note: Sharing Name is used to identify which computer/user is currently using the license. It can be anything you like; however, it is recommended that you NOT use the same name for everyone sharing the license. For example, if you would like to share a license between your office and home computer, a likely scheme would use the names "Home" and "Office".

Add Additional Single User License to Existing Shared License Pool:

NOTE: You must own a valid Single User License in order to add it to an existing Shared License Pool.

  1. From an active Single User License installation, select Installation and License Manager from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Set Up License Sharing
  3. Select Advanced Sharing
  4. Select Add
  5. Enter user information (name and e-mail) and the Shared License Key
(copy and paste from e-mail if possible); click Submit.
  6. If successful, the program will connect to the shared license pool and open!

Activate License On a Shared Computer:

This computer does not own a Single User License, but can utilize license sharing as a shared user.

  1. From the Startup Dialog box, select Shared License.
  2. Enter the Shared License Key (copy and paste from e-mail if possible) and click Activate.
  3. Enter user information (name and e-mail); click Activate.
  4. If successful, the program will connect to the shared license pool and open!

To Disable/Terminate License Sharing:

The Shared License Pool is only terminated when the last license is removed from the Shared License Pool. You can permanently remove your license from the shared pool by converting your license into a Single-User License. Use the Convert To Single-User License button from the Installation and License Manager located in the Tools menu.

Shared License Check Out:

Available for Simple or Advanced Sharing, this may be useful when going on the road or if your Internet connection is erratic.

  1. From an active Single User License installation, select Installation and License Manager from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Check Out Shared License
  3. Select Check Out Period.
    1. Hours – May be useful when sharing a desktop and a home computer.
    2. Days – May be useful when taking a laptop on the road.
    3. Permanently – Converts license back to original state (Full or Term); Sharing is terminated. When using Advanced Sharing, the license is removed from the shared license pool. If this is the only or last license in the pool, the shared license pool is terminated (all shared computers will no longer be able to connect to the shared license pool).
  4. After selecting Check Out Period, select Check Out.
  5. If successful, the program will operate as a standalone (no Internet connection necessary) for the designated check out period.

Additional considerations:

What happens if:

...you uninstall from the computer which initiated the Shared License Pool? The shared license pool remains intact and is NOT terminated, unless this is the only or last shared license key in the pool, then the Shared License Pool is terminated.

...you uninstall from a Shared Computer? The user is removed from the shared users list. The shared license pool remains active.

When Upgrading a License:

The installation of a product update will NOT terminate any shared license pools you have established. To terminate sharing follow the steps identified above in the To Disable/Terminate License Sharing section.

If you have setup and are using Advanced Sharing, there may be multiple computers using the Shared License Pool, for example:

  • the computer which originated the Advanced Shared Pool - Computer #1;
  • other computers who have added their single user license key to the Shared Pool - Computer #2 and Computer #3; and
  • any computer adding themselves as a shared user in the Shared Pool - Computer #4 and Computer #5.
Each individual computer can be upgraded to a newer version without having to be removed from the shared license pool, provided the upgrade is within the same Major version release.
