PocketAGI Introductory Tutorial

Using PocketAGI

The Main screen in PocketAGI provides access to Licensing instructions, system settings and the Room Estimator tool.

Information is provided for each screen by clicking the "i" button in the upper right corner.

PocketAGI is delivered in demo mode. In Demo mode, access to only 5 sample photometric files is provided. In order to use the photometric database you have created and synced, the software must be purchased and licensed. Follow the instruction in the License screen to obtain your Authorization key. Once the software is Authorized, the photometric database is accessible.

Click the Room Estimator button to access Room Estimator.

Step 1

Select a luminaire. The image to the right shows a Z-Lux Fluorescent luminaire selected from the Z-Lux node.

The luminaire lumens and watts are extracted from the photometric data. You can change the lumens and watts to prorate the luminaire.

Note: The Watts indicate the luminaire input watts and should be accurate in order to obtain an accurate Lighting Power Density (LPD) value.

Specify a LLF (light loss factor) for the project. Click on the arrow to select from a list of LLFs (specified in the Settings screen).

The Info button provides additional photometric information for the selected luminaire.

Click the Room button to proceed.

Step 2

Specify the Room criteria. In this screen you enter the room dimensions, reflectances and ceiling grid.

The Suspension Length indicates the distance from luminaire to ceiling. Recessed luminaires would have a suspension length of zero. Our luminaire is suspended 1.5' below the ceiling.

The workplane height indicates the plane where illuminance is calculated. For interior spaces, the workplane height is often at desk height, 2.5' above the floor. To calculate illuminance on the floor, use a zero workplane height.

Click the Calculate button to proceed.

Step 3

Calculate average illuminance levels or estimate how many luminaires are needed.

To estimate the number of luminaires required to meet a desired illuminance level, specify an illuminance value and click the Calculate button. The Illuminance and # Luminaires fields will be updated to indicate the calculated results.

To estimate the illuminance levels based on a known number of luminaires, enter the number of luminaires and click the Calculate button. The Illuminance and # Luminaires fields will be updated.

Note: Room Estimator requires that a uniform layout is created that meets the luminaire spacing criterion.

You may adjust the calculated layout by using the + and - buttons. The calculated # Luminaires and Illuminance is updated.

Click the Export button to proceed.

Step 4

Export the project. This screen allows you to export your project to your PC.

The exported project will be sent to your PC during the next sync of your PDA. You may export multiple layouts if desired. Each project is stored as a record in the database and will be available for review and printout on your PC.

You can copy the report to your handheld's Clipboard. Once in the Clipboard, it is available for memos, e-mail and any other application that uses the Clipboard.

The project description uses the current date and time to describe the project. You can modify this description if you want.

That's all there is to it!
