PocketAGI Introductory Tutorial

This tutorial introduces you to PocketAGI - our estimation calculation tools for the PDA. PocketAGI features Room Estimator - a lumen method design tool used to create luminaire layouts in rectangular rooms.

The PocketAGI software consists of two software tools:

  1. PocketAGI is installed on your PDA and performs lighting calculations. You may export the layouts to your PC for expanded printing.

  2. The PocketAGI Desktop Companion provides interactivity for PocketAGI between your PDA and PC. The Desktop Companion allows you to create photometric databases that are synced to your PDA and read exported layouts from your PDA with printing capabilities.

Desktop Companion

The Main screen in the Desktop Companion provides several options.

  1. Install PocketAGI on your PDA by clicking the Send PocketAGI to Handheld button.

  2. Create a photometric database to send to your PDA by clicking the Photometric Data to Handheld button.

  3. Print layouts exported from your PDA by clicking the Read PocketAGI Export File button.

Click the Send Photometric Data... button to begin creating the photometric database.

Create Photometric Database

The Desktop Companion allows you to select photometric files from AGi32's InstaBase or individually, from any location on your PC.

When selecting photometric data from the AGi32 InstaBase, each manufacturers product line is individually accessed. Each node in the InstaBase is selectable by checking the selection box. Its subnodes and photometric files will automatically be selected. For example, in the capture shown below, the ZL-Fluorescent node is selected. The photometric files contained within are automatically selected as well. You may select photometric files individually as well.

You may add photometric data from as many manufacturers as desired in one session. The size of the photometric database allowed is wholly dependent on the amount of available memory on your handheld. PDA's with larger memory resources can hold more data. Keep in mind that PocketAGI provides an interior estimating calculator. Selecting outdoor photometry only increases your photometric database size unnecessarily.

IES files not available in the InstaBase can be selected. Navigate to the directory where the files are located and select them. You can select multiple files at once by using Windows™ Shift-click and Ctrl-click selection methods.

The selected files are added to the PocketAGI photometric database under a Main node that carries the current folder name. You can rename this node if needed.

To add the selected files to the PocketAGI photometric database, click the arrow button. The photometric data is added to the database as it appears in the InstaBase or folder. You can use the pull-down menus to preview the database structure. These menus emulate the way the photometric data is accessed in PocketAGI.
Once you are satisfied with the database, you can create and send it to your PDA. Click the Create button. A progress bar is displayed while the database is being created. The database is sent to your PDA's Install directory and will be transferred the next time you sync.
